Over
the years, online greeting cards have become
more popular than actually sending them through
the mail system. You can find online greeting
cards for practically any occasion imaginable
and sent the card immediately. There is never a
need to mail the card days in advance and
wonder if the recipient will receive it in
time. There is never a waiting period if you're
sending online greeting cards. Sometimes you
can actually choose the date you want the card
to be "delivered." There are many, many
websites that offer online greeting cards. Some
of those sites will charge you a small fee
while other sites are completely free. If
you're planning on sending cards via the
internet frequently, it may not be a bad idea
to actually pay for a membership to a site that
you are fond of. Members often have access to
more cards than non-members have.
Thousands of online greeting
cards are sent to others each and every
day. No longer will you have that panicky
feeling of having waited until the last
moment to send a card. If you send online
greeting cards they can be received
almost immediately. I love that. I also,
however, feel back for the card stores.
Suddenly, there are some beautiful and
meaningful cards that are being replaced
with online greeting
cards.

While
there are many advantages of online greeting
cards, there are also drawbacks. You definitely
can't tell your recipients that you carded
enough to send the very best, that's for sure.
Unless they print the card out, you can't keep
it for sentimental reasons. It also shows that
you may have waited until the last moment to
send someone a card or greeting, which offends
some people. I've seen some people receive
online greeting cards and make a comment about
the sender being too cheap to spend the money
on a real card and a single stamp. Whether they
have a point or not, it isn't always
appropriate to send an online greeting card.
For instance, don't send online greetings for a
birth or a death. Those events find people in
very emotional and vulnerable times and not
only are they likely to take more offense to
the gesture than usual, but they may want to be
able to keep a card from the event. I kept
every single card that I received when my
children were born. Those cards will be kept
until they are adults and find the
letters.
While
online greeting cards are a wonderful
invention, make sure that you use some
sensitivity. If someone is going through
something terrible or wonderful, take some
extra time to send a real card through the
mail. Just use your own common sense when it
comes to sending online greeting
cards.
